Bethany's Story

Bethany wanted to make new friends and boost her skills in a creative way, with a hope to do some voluntary work. Jack Drum Arts have helped her to try out a range of fun activities, find a volunteering placement and helped her on her way to getting qualifications.

Ailish's Story

21 year old Ailish didn’t feel that she had the experience or confidence to find a job. DurhamWorks partners Jack Drum Arts have seen her confidence grow working on theatre and film projects, and she’s learning a range of new skills on a week-long residential stay, which she’ll be able to transfer into the world of work.

23 year old Kate needed a job that wouldn’t have a negative effect on her health condition, but needed help to find an opportunity to retrain. Dog groomer Clair needed a new member of staff but was finding it difficult to find funding to train them. DurhamWorks helped bring Clair and Kate together and give them both the support they needed.


Jack’s Story

20 year old Jack had a qualification in Music Technology, but was unsure what to do with it when he left college. DurhamWorks helped him to look at his career options and when he had chosen his next steps, supported him to get the skills and confidence he needed to get the job he wanted.


Michael goes full circle, helping other young people into work

Michael was unemployed and unsure what to do next. Now, after some support and guidance from DurhamWorks, he’s working as a tutor , helping other young people to improve their maths and English skills and become work ready.


Eboni's Story

17-year-old Eboni’s lack of qualifications was holding her back from finding a job. Completing DurhamWorks training gave her the opportunity to prove herself and now she’s excelling in her Customer Services Apprenticeship.


Andy's story

Andy has ADHD and went to a school for pupils with special educational needs before moving onto a training course, which he didn’t enjoy. DurhamWorks supported him to find an apprenticeship that he really enjoys.


Daniel's story

Daniel has complex special needs, which have affected his education in the past. DurhamWorks helped to find a tailor-made Traineeship which met all of his needs.


Steve's story

Steve spent time in care when he was younger and has health conditions, including Diabetes, as well as low self-esteem and confidence. He struggled with school, but with support from DurhamWorks has not only enrolled in college, but showed such ability that he has moved to a higher level course.
